Garden development |

The first task that was undertaken after purchase was a garden design achieved by Michael Smith. His plans were critical in the first few years of the development of the garden from the overgrown 'jungle' we acquired in 1991. Throughout this period we have kept the more mundane aspects of lawn cutting, edging, pruning and general tidying under control thanks to help from Brian Whittle. Most of the work was undertaken by ourselves including a 5" gauge railway (which no longer exists), but with help from Neil Lucas from Knoll Gardens for the grasses & perennials garden; and Paul Dyer for the large water garden. In late 2007 we decided to plan a major investment to create phase 2 of the overall design. We asked Janine Pattison from Little Eden to come up with a more detailed design and in December 2007 we commenced an ambitious plan, starting with the woodland area which had not received as much attention previously as the rest of the garden. This area of the garden will be transformed over the next few months into a jurassic garden with ferns of all varieties, a regency vegetable garden with raised beds and a central dipping pool, a bluebell grove, an acer dell and an area of azaleas & dwarf rhododendrons. |
